DATE INFORMATION

LET THERE BE NO MISTAKE ABOUT WHO WE ARE, WHAT OUR MISSION IS, AND WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED!!!

1) WE are a NATIONAL ORGANIZATION of former and current armed forces members having served, or currently serving, in the Republic of Korea.  We are Korea Occupation Forces, Korean War, and Cease-fire veterans dedicated to our fallen brothers and sisters from every era.  We are a stand-alone national organization, not a Chapter or Subsidiary of any other veterans organization.
2) WE will never retreat from our mission or desert our brothers and sisters.  We make no specific promises, but we do promise to do our best on every initiative.  We are not in competition with other veteran organizations, in fact, we believe this to be counter productive.  We openly support all veteran organizations of any war or operation, any branch, any gender, any ethnicity, or any religious  background.
3) WE are leading the fight during this cease-fire period to end over half a century of lack of respect and lack of proper recognition by the Pentagon and the UN for historically hostile and dangerous service begun 28 July 1954.
4) WE initiated, coordinated, and implemented the plans that led to the successful award of the Korea Defense Service Medal (22 Dec 2002) and the Korea Defense Service Combat Recognition Bill (28 Oct 2004).  WE are the organization of record with Congress.  NO OTHER veterans organization can truthfully make this claim.

02 JUL 08 COMBAT ACTION BADGE UPDATE - The KDVA's July 2006 Resolution No. 21 to retroactively award the CAB and make eligibility equal to the CIB/CMB has teeth.  Florida congresswoman Representative Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL 5th) has secured language in the House version of the fiscal 2009 Defense Authorization Bill to require the Army to retroactively award the CAB to all that are qualified from 7 December 1941 to 18 September 2001.  Although Rep. Brown-Waite applauds the Army's creation of the CAB, she states it doesn't go far enough to recognize our veterans.  If you support our resolution and Rep. Brown-Waite's bill, HR 2267, contact your House and Senate legislators to support this effort.   To contact Rep. Brown-Waite:  Call Charlie Keller (202) 225-1002 or write or fax:

12 DEC 07 COLD WAR VICTORY MEDAL DEFEATED BY NON INCLUSION IN NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION FOR 2008 - The National Defense Authorization Act for 2008 was finalized without the Cold War Victory Medal being included as reported by the House-Senate Conference.
The Department of Defense pushed the same cost reasons that they used in each previous year as well as they stated the CWM would be a duplication of recognition already authorized.  It is also known that there were too few supporters in conference to defeat the objections.

AMERICAN MILITARY VETERANS COMMUNICATIONS CENTER - The host of the AMVCC informed us that there are many hits to the forum site from the KDVA web site but that no visitors post messages or register.  The host is concerned that visitors may oppose the registration process due to a misunderstanding.  This registration process is to defeat spammers from degrading the site and ruining its purpose.  Also, we have been assured by the host that no registration information is gathered and sold to third-parties or used for purposes other than its intent.  The KDVA has published several sites for use as guest books and message centers to allow members and supporters to communicate.  Each of these failed because of spammers and inappropriate messaging.  This registration process should ensure that the forum functions for veterans focusing on veterans concerns.
(23 AUG 07 MESSAGE BELOW)
This forum is partitioned into eras and operations, i.e., WW II (Africa, Europe, Pacific), Korea (1945-1950, 1950-1954-1954-present), South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Kosovo, Persian Gulf Desert Shield/Storm, Global War on Terrorism (Afghanistan, Iraq), and Cold War. These forums can be a lot more than just a place to stop by, take a quick look and move on, the board has the potential to be one of the better places for Americas Veterans to congregate and do what veterans do – have a good time, exchanging stories, ideas and general BS’ing.
To use the forum it is necessary to register first. The site contains a registration link because the registration process has a little more to it than most bulletin board systems. You must register using your real name or a variation of it, i.e., William T, Bill T, BTurner, etc. Nicknames or CB handles will not be accepted.
This forum is for veterans, active duty military, their families and friends, and those with an interest in our military and its history, The forum is not for Spammers, cranks, web promoting, or juvenile behavior. In-as-much as this is a brand new operation, please bear with the publisher as it is expected it will take some tweaking and testing until they get everything right.

WHY NOT SALUTE?
Subject: Fw: Hand Salute.

The following is a letter from Vern Lewis, General , U. S. Army (Ret). If you like his idea please pass it along to your fellow veterans.

"I gathered some 16 of my old military friends who agreed to sponsor a movement for veterans to salute rather than place their hands over their heart when honoring the flag, fallen comrades, and/or the country. My friends are from each of the four principal services. Three of them were former Vice Chiefs or Assistant Commandants of their services, and several were former CINCs. We refer to saluting when we do the pledge to the flag, when the National Colors pass or are presented, when the National Anthem or honors are played or when taps are played and firing squads or guns render honors. We got MOAA magazine to ask veterans what they preferred - hand over the heart or saluting. When last I looked, some 583 veteran respondents had voted 81% in favor of the salute. In addition, my email address was in the questionnaire and I've had about 150 responses, with all but a dozen or so in favor of the salute. Obviously an overwhelming majority of the veterans want to salute.

"There are no regulations telling us veterans what we can and can't do in this matter. If we decide we want to salute, who will dare to tell us `no?' It is a matter of personal choice. We've earned the right to render a salute. Now the challenge is to get the word out. I believe the unit and branch associations are the best way. The commanders of the American Legion and VFW never answered my emails, presuming they even got them. If we can get this started it will take on a life of its own. Those who object can continue the hand over the heart thing. Gradually the custom will change, as well it should.

"Just imagine thousands of fans saluting at NFL, MBA, and Major League Baseball games when the National Anthem is played. It will telegraph a message to all others of how many have served this country in the Armed Forces - it will be a positive and patriotic message. You can help by putting the word out in your organizations, which are made up of patriots like you and me. Thanks, my friend."
